Quiet flows the River Dee past five of Llangollens holes, imposing a threatening presence on three of them but well worth the watery inconvenience for the pleasure of being in such a beautiful vale.

It is at the 425 yards ninth, aptly called the River Hole, that the Dee plays its most menacing role running down the right -hand side of the fairway. With a sharp dog-leg left you have to hit a long and accurate drive perilously close to the riverbank to have any chance of reaching with your second. The Vale of Llangollen has long said it is the best golf hole in North Wales. A top amateur from the south suggested there was none better anywhere in Wales. In addition to the golf, there are parts of the vale that can only be seen from the course.
